Compress

Picture
A bandage - cloth or another material applied under pressure to an affected area of the skin and held in place for a period of time. A compress can cold or hot, dry or wet. It may also be soaked in medication or an herbal remedy. Most compresses are used to relieve inflammation.
Warm compresses can be used to treat a variety of issues, from muscle soreness to joint stiffness, promoting the resorption of local inflammatory processes and reduction of edema. Cold compresses are usually applied to bruises and in case of fever (in the head), trauma ( sprains, strains, pulled muscles and pulled ligaments) or bleeding. Cold Compression Therapy combines two of the principles of R.I.C.E. (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) to reduce pain and swelling.
