Red eyes

Comments

Picture
Changes in the blood vessels in eyes that make them look red or bloodshot. Usually caused by irritation, infection or trauma. Even minor things such as coughing, sneezing, crying, and lack of sleep can lead to redness in eyes often accompanied by other eye symptoms, including burning, itching, soreness, tearing and discharge. Other possible causes: smoke, smog, dust, dry air, personal care products, contact lenses, allergies, infections and other inflammations may cause redness resulting from blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelid margin) or conjunctivitis (inflammation of the eye surface).

Remedies for red eyes depend on the cause and range from rest, adequate sleep, cool compresses over eyes and over-the-counter eye drops to more aggressive treatment such as antibiotics or even surgery.
