procedures lightening teeth helping to remove stains and discoloration. Cosmetic dental procedures whitening teeth need to be repeated from time to time if you want to maintain the brighter color.

Whitening products can bleach the tooth, actually changing the natural tooth color or work by physical or chemical action to help remove surface stains only.

The most common type of professional vital tooth whitening (performed on teeth with live nerves_ uses a gel that is applied directly to the tooth surface. This product contains some form of hydrogen peroxide. Teeth that had root canal treatment could be treated with a whitening agent placed inside the tooth for a few days. There is also a wide array of over-the-counter home whitening kits and home remedies that work sufficiently well in some cases.

TheraBreath Probiotics

Picture
M18 and K12 strains of a beneficial bacteria called  Streptococcus Salivarius which normally occurs in the mouth, throat and nose. These strains produce bacterocin like inhibitory subtances (BLIS) proteinaceous compounds (BLIS) capable of inhibiting the growth of similar bacterial strains.

Dr. Harold Katz, LLC also known as "The Breath company" developed TheraBreath multisymptom probiotics and oral care probiotics "to actively attack the bacteria that is responsible for tooth decay, cavities, acid erosion, bleeding and sensitive gums, plaque, tooth staining, and other germ-related oral care maladies".  These probiotics were developed specifically for colonizing the tongue, mouth, and throat.

Thiazide diuretics

Comments

Picture
Diuretics (drugs causing increased passing of urine) derived from benzothiadiazine. Thiazides control hypertension in part by inhibiting reabsorption of sodium (Na+) and chloride (Cl−) ions from the distal convoluted tubules in the kidneys by blocking the thiazide-sensitive Na+-Cl− symporter.

Many people will require treatment with more than one antihypertensive drug to achieve blood pressure control. In the black hypertensive population, including those with diabetes, a calcium channel blocker or thiazide-type diuretic is recommended as initial therapy. In the general nonblack population, including those with diabetes, initial antihypertensive treatment should include a thiazide-type diuretic, calcium channel blocker (CCB), angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI), or angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB).
Examples of thiazide and thiazide-like diuretics include:
  • Chlorothiazide (Diuril) /oral or sodium injection/
  • Chlorthalidone
  • Hydrochlorothiazide (Microzide)
  • Indapamide (most effective in the 80+ population (based on the Very Elderly Trial, HYVET), a randomized, double-blind placebo trial that enrolled 3,845 patients from 195 centers in Europe, China, Australia, and North Africa).
  • Metolazone

Tinnitus

ringing or roaring in one or both ears, that does not come from the surroundings and does not go away. Can feel like cricket chirps, buzzing, whistling or high-pitched ringing, low-pitched venous hum, soft sounds like rustling grass or loud noises,  roaring, clicking, hissing and heartbeat pulsating. Tinnitus is sometimes accompanied by hyperacusis (when moderately loud sounds are perceived as very loud). Could be accompanied by pressure in the head and gets worse with ear infection, excess wax, prior traumas, stress, anxiety, poor sleep, exposure to loud noises and certain drugs such as aminoglycoside antibiotics that kill the sensory "hair" cells.
Causes of tinnitus include:
  • Hearing loss in older people
  • Exposure to loud noises
  • Ear and sinus infections
  • Heart or blood vessel problems
  • Meniere's disease
  • Brain tumors
  • Hormonal changes in women
  • Thyroid problems
  • Certain medicines
Because of the complex pathophysiology of tinnitus, definitive treatment is yet to be developed. There are multiple nonpharmacological treatment options available, such as tinnitus retraining therapy (TRT), masking, amplification, and limiting inducing agents and environmental factors  such as stress, caffeine, aspirin, and nicotine intake. A cochlear implant eliminates tinnitus in up to 86% of patients with profound hearing loss, although in 9% symptoms worsen. Acupuncture, herbal remedies such as Ginkgo biloba, ear candling, low-power lasers, and electromagnetic stimulation all have been used to treat tinnitus but with little evidence of benefit.  Currently, patients show improvement with counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy, and additional use of different sound therapy; however, many prefer drug therapy. Several drugs are now undergoing clinical trials.

Tolnaftate

Comments

Picture
synthetic over-the-counter anti-fungal agent applied directly to the body (topical fungicide). It is believed to prevent ergosterol biosynthesis by inhibiting squalene epoxidase. Ergosterol biosynthesis inhibitors (EBI) are a diverse group of antifungal agents that includes azoles, morpholines, thiocarbamates (including Tolnaftate), and allylamines (including terbinafine), the last two inhibiting the first enzyme in the pathway.

Toluene

Comments

Picture
Toluene or Methylbenzene is an aromatic hydrocarbon with a smell of a paint thinner. It can be found in food - like herb allspice, medicines -  like tolu balsam, and is utilized in the manufacturing of many commercial products, including paints and glues. Colorless and insoluble in water, toluene can be dangerous when its fumes are inhaled, causing neurological damage and intoxication. It has been shown to exhibit beta-oxidant, depressant, hepatoprotective, anesthetic and neurotransmitter functions
Toluene can be found in urine, blood, feces, saliva and breath. Background levels of
toluene in breath measured in toluene-exposed workers are about 1,000-fold higher than in non-exposed individuals.
Toluene metabolites  (Hippuric acid and cresols) can be also used as indicators of exposure.
