Radishes

Comments

Picture
pungent-tasting edible root from cabbage family

Hawaiian style pickled radishes are quick to prepare, and require fermenting for 1-2 hours after adding water, vinegar, sake, sugar, salt, and wakame. It takes 5-6 more days to develop full flavor.

Oriental style pickles can be also quick and spicy.

Radishes countain good amounts of folic acid, fiber, riboflavin, potassium, copper, vitamin B6, magnesium, manganese, and calcium

Ralstonia eutropha

Comments

Picture
Ralstonia eutropha is an engineered bacteria that converts sunlight and carbon diooxide into biomass, ten times more efficiently than plants.
It can
consume hydrogen from split water and CO2 and convert them into adenosine triphosphate (ATP) or produce isopropanol, isobutanol, or isopentanol, alcohols that can be burnt directly.
Ralstonia eutropha H16 is a facultatively autotrophic hydrogen-oxidizing bacterium capable of producing polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB)-based bioplastics and can be rationally engineered further to enhance fatty acid production, to increase yield for a range of fuels, chemicals, and PHB derivatives.

Ralstonia eutropha H16 was formerly known as Alcaligenes eutrophus.

Rancid butter odor

Comments

Picture
smell similar to sweaty feet, rotten cheese or vomit. When butter goes rancid, short-chain fatty acid butyric acid is liberated from the glyceride by hydrolysis, leading to this kind of unpleasant odor. Human sweat can have this odor because of Corynebacterium that metabolizes animal fats excreted on skin. It can also be created from amino acids in proteins (valine, leucine, and isoleucine). Cows can have this smell if they are on high-grain or high-starch diets vs hay diets. According to a Swiss study published in "Chemical Senses"in 2008, men might have more of butyric acid and similar chemicals in their sweat, while women have more sulfur giving them smells similar to onions or grapefruit.

Red eyes

Comments

Picture
Changes in the blood vessels in eyes that make them look red or bloodshot. Usually caused by irritation, infection or trauma. Even minor things such as coughing, sneezing, crying, and lack of sleep can lead to redness in eyes often accompanied by other eye symptoms, including burning, itching, soreness, tearing and discharge. Other possible causes: smoke, smog, dust, dry air, personal care products, contact lenses, allergies, infections and other inflammations may cause redness resulting from blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelid margin) or conjunctivitis (inflammation of the eye surface).

Resveratol

Comments

Picture
a polyphenol compound (trihydroxy stilbene derivative C10H12O3) found in some plants, fruits, seeds, and grape-derived products (as red wine) and has been linked to a reduced risk of coronary disease and cancer.
Resveratrol is very similar to amino acid tyrosine. It could affect cells in several ways - changing expression of certain genes and activating enzymes. Resveratrol could also affect microbes in the gut, potentially preventing the atherosclerosis that leads to cardiovascular disease. In mice, Resveratol increased the ratio of Bacteroidetes to Firmicutes, a configuration generally associated with a leaner physique. Moreover, resveratrol appeared to promote the growth of Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium and Akkermansia, all of which are bacteria associated with a healthy gut.

Roller coaster

Comments

Picture
an elevated railway (as in an amusement park) constructed with sharp curves and steep inclines on which cars roll.
People with pre-existing conditions could be at risk for injury caused by roller coaster rides. Those with underlying atherosclerosis of blood vessels might be prone to sheer stress and subsequent stroke. The excitement of the ride could release enough adrenalin to trigger both arrhythmia and infarction in susceptible individuals. Subdural hematomas and brain bleeding could happen even without direct trauma as violent movements of the head could tear cortical veins leading to the hematoma. This is rare and is more likely to happen to very young or old people, those taking blood thinners and long term alcoholics. Symptoms of subdural hematoma could be delayed by as much as 2 weeks and include fluctuating levels of consciosness, abnormal movement of the eyes, memory problems, nausea and headache. It can be diagnosed with CT or MRI.  Roller coaster could also trigger headaches, vertigo, nausea, short-term memory loss and inflict ear injuries. Ear barotrauma occurs when there is a relatively quick change in pressure between the external environment, the ear drum and the pressure in the middle ear space. Otolaryngologists recommend that passengers remain facing forward for the duration of the ride to not let the full impact of acceleration hit the ear.
Hematomas and eye injuries have been documented after one roller coaster ride, yet there are healthy seniors able to tolerate dozens, almost a hundred rides per day. Young teenagers might be most susceptible to motion sickness symptoms, while toddlers are still calibrating their senses and enjoy the lack of predictability.

Restore

Comments

Picture
Liquid supplement manufactured by Virginia-based Biomic Sciences since early 2013.
It is marketed as a proprietary formula "enhancing the diversity of microbiome" by making the gut environment friendlier to the "growth of 20,000-30,000 different strains of good gut bacteria", improving "their communication" and enabling them "to work together". 1 teaspoon of Restore contains 150 mg of stabilized Lignite extract (trademarked as Terrahydrite) and purified water (less than 1% of: chloride, sodium, lithium, calcium, phosphorus, sulfur, bromide, potassium, iron, atimony, zinc, copper, gold, magnesium, alanine, glycine, histidine, isolucine, methionine, threonine, valine.)
Terrahydrite is said to tighten gut junctions and improve digestive health.
Lignite is technically a type of poor quality coal - a sedimentary rock formed from compressed peat mined all over the world. It is generally used as a fuel for generating electricity.

Note that this supplement was not clinically proven to work. There was only one paper published about it and the positive feedback from consumers could be Placebo effect.
There are over 300 reviews on Amazon; 2 at gnc.com, 2 at jet.com, also 4 short reviews from summer 2016 at prohealth.com.

Running

Comments

Running
moving at a fast pace, with both feet held off the ground at regularly spaced brief intervals. Good cardiovascular (aerobic) exercise.
Running speed is affected by stride length (distance between right and left foot contacting the ground), force and frequency as well as total body fitness.
Jogging is more loosely defined, the speed is less than 6 mph / 9 km per hr / 2.5 meters per second or 9 mph / 14 km per h / 4 m per sec for athletes.
At speeds up to 2m/s (7 mph), walking requires less energy than running. As speed increases, different strides of running become more economical.

Right nostril breathing

Comments

Picture
Inhaling and exhaling through right nostril. Increases blood glucose levels and memory performance, enhances left brain responsible for logic.
With a long, slow, deep breath, gently inhale through your right nostril.  Then, just as gently, exhale long, slowly and completely, again through the right nostril.  Relax your body and feel the energy smoothly and gracefully building in your body, bringing new life into your body. This could help you to get energized and more focused. See also Left nostril breathing

Rum

Comments

Picture
An alcoholic liquor distilled from fermented sugar-cane residues or molasses.
In rum production, the alcoholic fermentation is performed through the action of yeasts, traditionally comprising Saccharomyces strains and, depending on the type of rum (‘rhum agricole’; ‘rhum industriel’; light- flavour rum and heavy-flavour rum), mostly Schizosaccharomyces strains but also Saccharomyces and others. Bacteria that are found mainly in raw materials (e.g. Brevibacterium
and Corinebacterium in cane juice, Propionbacteria and Lactobacillii in molasses as well as dilution waters) produces ethanol along with yeasts.
