Neoprene

Comments

Picture
synthetic rubber-like material, resistant to oil, heat, water, and weathering. Neoprene is the generic name for an organic polymer called polychloroprene, typically built from the monomer 2-chloro-1,3-butadiene.
Neoprene is used for face masks, dish-washing gloves (as an alternative to latex), scuba wet suits, leggings, skirts,  pants, t-shirts and other clothing. Neoprene is also known as "Mixed dialkyl thioureas (MDTU), "leather of the summer" or "scuba".
Neoprene is water resistant, temperature controlling and flexible which makes it a perfect material for things like computer sleeves, wet suits, athletic shoes, gloves and knee braces. Neoprene traps warm air between the fibers or a thin layer of water between the suit and the wearer's skin that helps to keep the wearer warm. Sensitivity to neoprene might be exacerbated by sweating and could elicit redness, itching, scaling and sometimes blistering.

Neufchâtel cheese

Comments

Picture
Soft, slightly crumbly, mold-ripened cheese that is one of the most ancient cheeses, dating back to 11th century. It is made in the French region of Normandy and is often heart shaped, weighing 100-600 grams, depending on molds. It is a type of fresh cheese, similar to Quark, and matures for more than a month.  It's a lower fat version of cream cheese with pH 4.6, w20-33 % fat, and 2-3 w/w lactose.
All chesses result from lactic fermentation of milk starting from cultures usually containing S.thermophilus and L lactis. Cheese rinds host a specific microbiota composed of both prokaryotes (such as Actinobacteria, Firmicutes and Proteobacteria) and eukaryotes (primarily yeasts and molds). The microbial composition of
Neufchâtel cheese is not very clear, but it might contain Debaryomyces hansenii, Yarrowia lipolytica, Corynebacterium casei, Corynebacterium variabile, Arthrobacter arilaitensis, Arthrobacter sp., Microbacterium gubbeenense, Agrococcus sp. nov.,Brevibacterium linens, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus equorum,Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Micrococcus luteus, Halomonas venusta, Vibrio sp., and Bacillus sp.

Neutrogena body wash

Comments

Picture
Liquid products used for cleaning the body introduced by Neutrogena "to treat and help prevent body breakouts for smooth clear skin from head to toe".  Body wash does not contain any soap, in the technical sense, althoug could be referred to as "soap", colloquially.  Cleansers with a high pH (like many soaps) can strip skin of lipids and proteins, leading to dryness, irritation, redness, and, in some cases, even broken skin leading to infection. Neutrogena body wash has lower pH (3.4-4.8). It contains:
Active ingredient: Salicylic Acid 2%
Inactive ingredients: water, sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate, glycerin, cocamidopropyl betaine, acrylates copolymer, polysorbate 20, fragrance, sodium hydroxide, disodium EDTA, C12-15 alkyl lactate, benzalkonium chloride, polyquaternium-7, cocamidopropyl PG-dimonium chloride phosphate, sodium benzotriazolyl butylphenol sulfonate, carrageenan, agar, neopentyl glycol dicaprylate/dicaprate, ascorbyl palmitate, propylene glycol, camellia oleifera leaf extract, butylene glycol, chamomilla recutita (matricaria) flower extract, citrus grandis (grapefruit) fruit extract, alumina, mica, iron oxides, titanium dioxide, red 30 lake, red 30, red 40, violet 2

Noise

Comments

Picture
Sound that is loud, unpleasant, unexpected, undesired or that causes disturbance.

Exposure to high levels of noise can cause hearing loss. Repeated exposures to such noise (> 85 decibels, like milling machine or food blender) or one-time exposure to very loud sound can lead to permanent tinnitus and/or hearing loss (read more about safe sound levels).

Noise can also create physical and psychological stress, reduce productivity, interfere with communication and concentration, and contribute to workplace accidents and injuries.
increased Noisier environments are known to increase healthcare costs.

Noise pollution from motor vehicles is regulated in several countries based on a given decibel level, and also based on the specific pitch or frequency of the given noise. Occupational exposures to noise should be controlled below a level equivalent to 85 dBA (85 adjusted decibels, equivalent to moderate home stereo or city traffic heard from inside car) for eight hours. But some noises may cause disturbance at lower sound levels or shorter periods of exposure. Examples of sounds found annoying by many people:
  • Vuvuzela, also known as lepatata Mambu and stadium horn  - a long plastic horn that produces a loud monotone note, typically around B♭ centimetres (B-flat; also called si bémol), also described as incessant beehive sound.
  • Emergency Broadcast System - combination of the sine waves of 853 and 960 Hz, with sound levels usually exceeding ambient noise 6 times. Modern sirens can develop a sound level of up to 135 decibels at 100 feet
  • Nails on a Chalkboard - frequency range of around 2,000 to 5,000 Hz, where out ear is most acute
  • Car Alarms (500Hz -1000 Hz)
  • Dial-Up Modem
  • The Hum
  • Snoring
  • Cicadas

Norovirus

Comments

Picture
Group of genetically-diverse single-stranded RNA viruses comprising the Norwalk virus, which can cause inflammation of the stomach and large intestine lining (gastroenteritis). Also known as Norwalk-like virus, "small, round-structured virus" (SRSV), Spencer flu, "Snow Mountain virus", "winter vomiting bug", and "stomach flu", but the latter refers to a range of viruses and bacteria.

Norovirus is a very contagious virus that can infect anyone, mainly by person-to-person contact or by contaminated food and water. Norvovirus (NoVs) is classified into at least five types (genogroup I [GI] to genogroup V [GV]) and 34 genotypes. Human NoVs are in GI, GII, and GIV. In addition, NoVs have been detected in pigs (GII), cows (GIII), mice (GV), large carnivores (GIV.2) and dogs (GIV.2) and can spread easily across a group of animals.
The virus causes your stomach or intestines or both to get inflamed. This leads you to have stomach pain, nausea, and diarrhea and to throw up. These symptoms can be serious for some people, especially young children and older adults.

Nocturnal orgasms

Comments

Picture
A type of spontaneous orgasm during sleep
Ejaculation during sleep for a male, or lubrication of the vagina for a female. In 1953, Alfred Kinsey found that nearly 40% of the 5,628 women he interviewed experienced at least one nocturnal orgasm or "wet dream," by the time they were forty-five years old. A smaller study published in the Journal of Sex Research in 1986 found that 85% of the women who had experienced nocturnal orgasms had done so by the age of twenty-one or earlier. Women who have orgasms during sleep usually have them several times a year. Dr. Kinsey and his colleagues defined female nocturnal orgasm as sexual arousal during sleep that awakens one to perceive the experience of orgasm. Similar studies find that a much higher percentage of boys and men experience wet dreams.

Relatively small studies conducted in the 50s found  that nocturnal orgasm was reported by about 40% of women with the diagnosis of a neurosis or psychosis, and as opposed to only 6-8% of control women. Studies conducted in the 80s found that the incidence of nocturnal orgasms in healthy women is much higher and is associated with positive attitude to sex, knowledge about nocturnal orgasms and sexual liberalism. Later studies concluded that it was more about “erotic responsiveness" than other factors.
